Depression
Depression
Sometimes in life we have feelings of sadness or “the blues” due to specific things we could identify. These can include significant life changes such as divorce, loss of a job or Grieving. In many cases one can go through a normal process that allows for healing and moving on with life. Other times, we can get stuck and out thoughts begin to become consistently negative and hopeless. If this occurs for a period of 2 or more weeks, you may be suffering from a depressive episode. If you have 2 or more depressive episodes, you may be suffering from a depressive disorder. The good news is psychotherapy has been shown to help reduce depression and bring back a healthy productive life. In addition, medication and meditation have valid studies supporting their effectiveness. Dr. Silverman provides psychotherapy and meditative practices, as well as has access to medication management professionals.
His approach to treatment involves helping clients to identify maladaptive thinking patterns that reinforce negative thinking and thus negative moods. Using a variety of techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, diaphragmatic breathing and other mind-body techniques, Dr. Silverman treats both adults and adolescents in a caring and compassionate environment.
